Accessibility
The City of Solvang wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard, voice control, magnification or any other assistive technology.
Our standard
This website is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. WCAG 2.2 AA includes everything in WCAG 2.1 AA, the standard the U.S. Department of Justice sets for city and county websites under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The site was built and tested to that standard, and an independent accessibility auditor reviews it before it launches.
What the site does for you
- A “Skip to content” link is the first thing the Tab key reaches on every page.
- Every page has one main heading, and its sections are marked with headings and landmarks a screen reader can move between.
- Text and controls meet the WCAG contrast ratios against their backgrounds.
- Images that carry information have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
- Links that leave this site say so, and open in a new tab.
- Slideshows have a pause button, and stop moving on their own if your device is set to reduce motion.
- Pages adapt to phone and tablet screens.
- A translation tool in the header shows each page in other languages. Its translations are produced automatically and may contain errors.
Known limitations
- Older documents. Many of the City’s PDF documents were made before these standards applied. We are reviewing them and making the most-used ones accessible first. If you need any document in another format, ask us and we will provide it.
- Services on other websites. Some City services run on other companies’ systems, such as meeting agendas and minutes (shown on our Agendas & Minutes page from the City’s PrimeGov portal), meeting video (Swagit), bid documents, public records requests and the Municipal Code. If one of them keeps you from finishing a task, contact us and we will help you complete it another way.
